Total attendance at the recently concluded Guadalajara International Book Fair was about 813,000, a 3% increase over 2015. Figures include participation for both professional attendance and the general public.
Within the professional component, the number of publishers in attendance rose to 2,042, up from 1,983 last year, with publishers from 47 countries exhibiting. The biggest increase in attendance was in the academic program, which jumped 155%, to 8,400 attendees.
Latin America was the Guest of Honor at this year’s fair, the 30th edition of the event. Guatemalan poet Humberto Ak’abal closed out the fair by reading a poem in his native language, Maya Quiche.
Next year, Madrid will be the Guest of Honor at the fair, which will run from November 25 to December 3.
