'Bicycle Days' Author Returns
Judy Quinn -- 9/15/97
Originally started as his undergraduate thesis for Harvard's East Asian Studies department, John Burnham Schwartz's first novel Bicycle Days, inspired by time spent living in Japan, became a critically acclaimed hit when published by Summit Books in 1989. Now Schwartz has his followup, Reservation Road, a novel about the emotional intersections of lives after the hit-and-run death of a 10-year-old boy. Knopf editor Robin Desser paid a reported $250,000 advance in a deal negotiated by ICM agent Amanda Urban. No publication date was confirmed at press time.
