Pages Has Disappointing 1997

Pages Inc. reported disappointing results for 1997 as sales fell from $29.9 million to $27.8 million and the company posted a loss from continuing operations of $5.4 million, compared to earnings of $617,000 in 1996. The company said that during the year, sales from its core domestic book fairs were about equal with 1996, as were revenues in its library services division.In order to return the company to profitability in 1998, Pages chairman Robert Davies said the company has reduced overhead costs by $3 million and test-marketed several new products for its book-fair programs. In addition, Pages is looking at adding non-educational products that can be sold through its distribution channels.
