Borders Opening Five More

Borders is opening a five more superstores over the next few months, all but one of which will stock more than 150,000 book, music, video and periodical titles. The stores are in Illinois, Texas, Florida, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

The first opening will be in May, when a 26,451-sq.-ft. store moves into Ernest Hemingway's hometown, Oak Park, Ill. It will be the company's 17th store in the Chicago area. This store will stock some 200,000 titles.

The remaining four stores will all open in July. The largest of the new stores is in Houston, Tex. The 32,000-sq.-ft. outlet will be in the Centre at River Oaks and will be the fourth Borders in Houston.

The company's new Florida store is in Treasure Coast Square Mall in Jensen Beach, near Port St. Lucie. The 25,600-sq.-ft. store is Borders™s 10th in southeast Florida.

Borders is also opening a 23,000-sq.-ft. store in Atlanta, Ga., in Midtown Place. It will be the 10th Borders in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Borders's new 25,000-sq.-ft. Pennsylvania store will be in the Paxton Town Centre in Lower Paxton Township, near Harrisburg. It is the first Borders in the Harrisburg area.
