Jonathan Franzen's third novel, The Corrections , lands on the bestseller charts (#5 on PW's) with a flurry of excellent reviews, including a starred one in PW that noted, "This is, simply, a masterpiece." Farrar, Straus & Giroux launched the book with a 67,500-copy first printing and has gone back for a second of 22,500, for a total of 90,000 in print. The book has already been optioned for the movies by Scott Rudin, and foreign rights have been sold to 12 publishers. Part of the house's marketing campaign includes a 15-city tour that goes through the end of October and a "Dinner on Us!" bookstore promotion. The latter is an offer to compensate booksellers for food and refreshments (up to $10 per person) for Corrections reading groups (for those that have not yet read the book, food -- and a particular Christmas dinner -- plays a key part in the novel).
