We are talking about Israeli born Chaim Witz, who spent many years in Brooklyn and admits to having worked for a very short while at Publishers Weekly in his youth. None of these facts would lead one to guess that we are talking about Gene Simmons, leader of the rock band Kiss. The facts that are driving readers to his tell-all autobiography, Kiss and Make-up, are his candor about the women he slept with (he claims to have bedded 4600 females, including Cher and Diana Ross) and the history of Kiss, from the beginnings to the global Farewell tour. Crown has already been back to press twice after a 100,000-copy first printing; total copies are now at 155,000. Most of Simmons's tour will be in January and February. His publication party went on until about three in the morning and his book signing at Barnes & Nobel's Astor Place in New York City on December 12, attracted more than 1,000 fans.
