Penelope Lively, Booker award—winning author of a dozen novels, several story collections, children's books and a recent memoir, is going to Viking with a two-book deal for a pair of new novels. Editor-at-large Carole DeSanti made the deal for U.S. rights with agent Emma Sweeney at Harold Ober Associates. The first new book is The Photograph, in which a man discovers a picture of his dead wife with a lover and sets out to unlock the secrets of their mutual pasts. It will be published next April, followed by a Penguin paperback; the second novel, untitled, will appear in 2005. Lively, known for her literary novels of psychological suspense, has recently been published largely by Grove, and several of her books are in HarperPerennial paperback. Her latest is the memoir A House Unlocked.
