Your story “McDonell Shakes Up Sports Illustrated Books” (Foreword, Nov. 17) lacks one important perspective. Sports Illustrated Books has become a profitable and growing business in partnership with Time Inc. Home Entertainment. While it is true that I was unhappy with the quality of the books packaged for SI when I arrived in 2002, that changed in 2004 when I brought the design and editing functions in-house and Richard Fraiman became president of TIHE. Together we have produced several bestsellers, including six of the top 20 sports books in 2007, and grown revenue 173%. All deals, including the one with Simon & Schuster, we do together; we have not published any books independent of TIHE.
