    Jean-Marc Dupuis, former Apple sales director, has joined Kobo as managing director for EMEA.

    The Poetry Foundation has named Robert Polito president, beginning July 8. Inaugural president John Barr will retire.

    Kerri Kolen is executive editor at G.P. Putnam's Sons, with a primary focus on popular nonfiction. She was previously with Hyperion.

    At Tor/Forge, Melissa Frain, Kristen Sevick, and Whitney Ross have been promoted to editor from associate editor.

  • IBPA Prez Retiring

    After a decade overseeing the Independent Book Publishers Association, Florrie Binford Kichler will retire at the end of June. Kichler, who started as a board member at the organization, was named president five years ago, after Jan Nathan died.

  • Authors on the Air January 23, 2013: Lawrence Wright, D.T. Max

    Lawrence Wright, author of Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief (Knopf, 978-0307700667), will be on The Leonard Lopate Show. Later, D.T. Max will be on the program to talk about the life of David Foster Wallace.

    David Boyle has been appointed to the newly created role of senior v-p, consumer insight, reporting to Chantal Restivo-Alessi, beginning February 4. He was previously SVP of insight at EMI Music.

    At Random House, Kate Childs has been promoted to publicity manager, digital and new media. Liza Eliano has been promoted to associate pbulicist, digital and new media. For Random House Speaker's Bureau, Jayme Boucher has been promoted to agent.

    Tina Andreadis has been promoted to senior v-p, publicity at Harper, where she's been since 2005. Also at the company, Maya Ziv has been promoted to editor. She came to Harper in 2008 from Brandt & Hochman Literary Agency.

    Atria Books has made the following promotions in the publicity department: Yona Deshommes is now senior publicity manager; Mellony Torres is now publicity manager; Ariele Fredman is now senior publicist.

  • Cascardi Joins Egmont USA; Law to Leave Company

    Egmont USA has appointed Andrea Cascardi to the new combined role of managing director and publisher, replacing Elizabeth Law, effective immediately.

  • Raab Named President and Publisher of Grand Central

    Jamie Raab has been promoted to president and publisher of Grand Central Publishing. Raab has been with GCP (and Warner Books before that) for 25 years and has headed GCP as executive v-p and publisher.

    Ruth Pomerance will join Hyperion as senior editor, effective January 28. At Hyperion, Pomerance will focus on the acquisition and development of new stories and author talent that will translate across the Disney/ABC Television Group businesses.

  • The Impact of Evan Connell

    Evan S. Connell, novelist, poet, short story writer, and bestselling author of Son of the Morning Star, Mrs. Bridge, Mr. Bridge, Deus lo Volt! and The White Lantern, among other books, died on January 9 at his home in Santa Fe, N.M., following several years of declining health. He was 88.
