Maya Banks is having a good year. After closing a seven-figure, three-book deal with Berkley in May of this year, the bestselling romance author has signed with a new house, for another seven-figures. HarperCollins's Avon Books has inked Banks for three books in a new contemporary romance series featuring what it called "psychic elements." Senior editor May Chen closed the world English rights deal with Banks's agent, Kimberly Whalen at Trident Media Group.
The new series is called Slow Burn, and Avon will be simultaneously publishing it in e-book and trade paperback. The first Slow Burn title, Keep Me Safe, is set for an October 2014 release. The next two Slow Burn titles will follow in January 2015, and March 2015, respectively.
Banks, who signed an earlier multi-million dollar deal with Berkley--before the one in May of this year, the imprint threw down for her to pen an erotic trilogy in May, 2012--broke out with her Breathless trilogy. According to her publicity team, that series has sold over 1.3 million copies to date. Banks has written more than 50 novels.
