After 30 years at St. Martin's Press, John Murphy will be leaving the company. Murphy started at SMP as a publicity associate, rising to v-p, director of publicity. In May, he was named v-p, publishing strategy, when Tracey Guest moved from Penguin to become Murphy's successor as director of publicity.
“For most of my adult life I’ve had two great loves--St. Martin’s and my partner of 35 years, Bud Stone,” Murphy said. “I’ve decided that the time is right for me to now enjoy my life with Bud and our extended family.”
SMP publisher Sally Richardson said: “John has been a cornerstone in St. Martin’s success and growth, bringing in new authors, recognizing untapped potential on the list, and reaching out to his enormous publicity network to ensure top review and media attention for our authors.”
