Marysue Rucci has been named publisher of Scribner, the oldest imprint of Simon & Schuster, effective February 24, succeeding Nan Graham, who will remain with the imprint in a new, as-yet-unnamed acquiring editorial role.

Rucci’s own imprint at Scribner, Marysue Rucci Books, will continue to publish through 2025, and her authors will follow her to Scribner. The move is the latest in a reshuffling of top jobs at S&S that includes Sean Manning succeeding Jonathan Karp as publisher of the S&S flagship imprint, Tim O’Connell taking the reins at Saga Press, and the relaunch of the Summit Books imprint under Judy Clain.

“It is an extraordinary privilege and the opportunity of a lifetime to lead the storied Scribner imprint, and to take the helm from the incomparable Nan Graham,” said Rucci in a statement. “As publisher, I will continue to publish lasting works of literary merit and to champion authors at all stages of their careers. I also look forward to working innovatively and strategically with the exceptional staff to expand Scribner’s footprint in the industry.”

Rucci began her Simon & Schuster career at Scribner, where she has spent the better part of the past three decades outside of a two-year stint as VP and editorial director of Penguin. In 2021, she launched her eponymous imprint, where she was VP, publisher, and editor-in-chief. Over the course of her career, Rucci has acquired, edited, or published works by such authors as Mona Awad, Mary Higgins Clark, Alice Elliott Dark, Laura Dave, Nelson DeMille, Helen Phillips, Shonda Rhimes, Rebecca Traister, and Paul Yoon.

“Whether the book is fiction or nonfiction, literary or commercial (or both), Marysue brings passion and conviction to her work,” said Jonathan Karp, CEO of S&S, in a statement. “Again and again, she has demonstrated that she possesses a discerning eye and an openness to new ideas and literary voices—and a propensity for choosing books that readers love.” Nan Graham added: “I have the greatest admiration for Marysue, for her books, her vision, and her singular dedication and advocacy. I am thrilled for the Scribner team and honored to be succeeded by her as Publisher of this magnificent imprint.”
